The Fitness Cowboy

My name is Mark Gomez, the “Fitness Cowboy.” Some of you may remember me as "Mr. Health and Fitness," which was the name of the column that I wrote for three years for The Fort Collins Coloradoan (2007-2010). I am a personal fitness trainer with two health-related master's degrees (Stanford University and the University of Florida), behavioral specialist, published writer, and … horse trainer. (More on that later.) For nearly 23 years, I have worked professionally in preventive healthcare, helping people live more fulfilling lives.

Four Seasons Health and Fitness, located in Fort Collins, Colorado, is my private, garden fitness studio where I see clients. Since 2006, I've offered this tranquil, natural setting as an alternative to the typical gym environment. Here, I work one-on-one with individuals (and couples) of all ages and physical conditions. I have special expertise working with people over 50 who may be de-conditioned, perhaps even with chronic health conditions. I also have special expertise working with rodeo cowboys.

Call or e-mail me today to set up a time to visit my studio and to receive a free consultation to learn how we can maximize your fitness potential.

Mission Statement

I seek to:

  • be genuine and authentic with all my clients;
  • meet each client where he or she is developmentally;
  • have “win-win” encounters with all clients;
  • partner with clients in a way that uniquely optimizes each person's health and well-being.
  • help clients re-prioritize their lives so that their health comes first;
  • personally role model a healthy and fit lifestyle.
I respect all peoples without qualifications. Everyone is welcome to pursue a fit lifestyle with me.

    Dear Mark, Great presentation last night. Lots of good information and the audience asked many good questions. The Fort Collins Colorado Mountain Club group thanks you. Don Carpenter, Program Director, Fort Collins

    The talk you gave yesterday was terrific!  It was informative and concise.  Your interactivity with the kids was the necessary piece some of my past field day guest speakers forget to do.  The message of cardio, flexibility and strength were right on target for the kids and adults.  It reinforced what I try to teach all year every year. Coach J. , Werner Elementary

    Since I travel a lot, I need to be smart about working out. Mark’s program is efficient and practical, and I’m already seeing results. After working with Mark for a half-year, my doctor took me off my cholesterol meds and lowered my blood pressure meds. It won’t be long before I’m off my meds completely. Chad K., Windsor

     I really thought I was going to end up in a wheelchair, my condition was so bad. But after working with Mark for just six weeks I was another person. I even was able to walk around Disneyland with my granddaughter, something I never thought I could do again. Thanks, Mark. I couldn't have done it without you. — Anne P., Bellevue

    I have physically trained on my own for many years without really understanding the body’s requirements for both productive exercise and effective nutrition. Mark's Movement Method gave me the information I needed so that, for the first time, I could understand how the body really works. I learned which exercises would be most beneficial for flexing the joints, strengthening the muscle groups, and planning my nutritional intake to obtain improved body performance.  I am now increasing my overall strength and modifying my weight to achieve a more satisfying level of health. Bob P., Fort Collins

    Before working with you I couldn’t safely get out of the bath tub, so I just stopped taking baths, which I love to take. Now, I can get out of the tub with ease. The same is true with closing my hatchback on the car. Before, I needed two hands and I really struggled. Now I use only one hand and there’s nothing to it. This is what I call aging gracefully! I don't always like exercising, but I love the way my body feels after our workouts. With your help I'm sure I'll be able to maintain my independence well into old age. Thanks, Mark! Doris S., Fort Collins

    P.S. I’ve now been working with Mark for 15 months, and I couldn’t be more pleased. When we first started, he told me that I’d first be able to move easier and get around better, then I’d become toned and fit, and, finally, I’d lose weight. This has occurred just as he said it would, and it hasn’t been that hard. Truthfully, he makes it kind of fun.

I’m not wealthiest person, but I’ve come to realize that my health is a priority and I just wouldn’t be doing this on my own. I’ve tried that. Even knowing how important it is for my overall health and my ability to move about, I always made excuses. Knowing that I have a twice-a-week appointment with Mark keeps me honest. I admit that I don’t always feel like keeping the appointment, but I do because I’ve already paid for it. And, really, the cost is minimal compared to losing my independence. (I’m 72 years old and live alone.) This is a life insurance policy that I actually get to cash in on.

The bottom line for me, though, is that I’m thrilled with the results so I keep signing up. Everyone comments and says how much better I look. I know that I feel better.

     I'm a guy in my 50s. I had managed to lose quite a bit of weight, but I had hit a plateau and still wasn't able to improve some basic health measures to the extent I desired. Mark proved to be just the right coach. He provided education to help me learn more about how my body worked, what my body needed from me, and he motivated me. He gave me tools I could use to improve my conditioning and helped me understand the impact of food choices I made without thinking. The results have been significant -- I have resumed losing weight and my overall condition is much improved. Thanks, Mark! Jim P., Fort Collins
